BBW has a new class schedule, effective Monday April 18, 2011. One of the features of our updated schedule will be our new system for Skill Stripe Testing.
Stripes will no longer be given out in class. There will now be six times during the week when students may try for their stripes. These times are noted on the schedule with a little sun symbol. The stripe testing is open to all belt levels and ages, regardless of the class times that they are associated with; Phoenix students will still get their stripes in class.
To try for your stripe, you will need to bring your attendance card to any authorized instructor in a designated classroom, and let them know which stripe you want to try for. They will ask you to demonstrate your skill. The stripe testing will be very informal. You do not have to have perfect technique to earn your stripe; you only need to prove that you know the material.
We prefer that you only test for one stripe in a given testing. However, if you truly feel that you are ready to test for more than one stripe, you may test for two at one time. Two is the maximum number of stripes you may earn in a single testing.
So if you want to test for your Forms stripe, you will take your attendance card to the authorized instructor in the designated classroom. Then they will ask you to demonstrate your poomsae. When you have finished showing the instructor your poomsae, you will receive your Forms Skill Stripe. This process is the same for all skill stripes.
You will be able to get your four stripes sooner than before, however you must fulfill attendance and time requirements to be eligible to test for your belt.
Good luck getting your stripes!
